Here’s how you can celebrate Bubble Gum Day:
Raise money for charity
Bubble Gum Day is an easy FUNdraiser. Here’s how it works:
| First, get permission from your principal | |
| On Bubble Gum Day, kids (or teachers!) who donate 50¢ or more get to chew gum at school | |
| Your school collects the money, then donates it to any charity |
Hold a bubble-blowing contest
| See who can blow the biggest bubble | |
| The fastest bubble | |
| The most bubbles in one minute |
Make learning fun
| Drop a piece of chewed bubble gum into a glass of water, and another into a glass of clear soda. What happens to each? Find out why! | |
| Measure the circumference and diameter of bubbles | |
| Which brand’s flavor lasts the longest? Design an experiment to find out. | |
| Teachers, check out the Bubble Gum Day lesson plans on EdHelper.com |

The History of Bubble Gum Day
My name is Ruth Spiro. I’m a writer, children’s book author and, of course, bubble gum lover. I have two kids, and it seemed they were always participating in school fundraisers that required them to sell things to people, and they were uncomfortable with that. Bubble Gum Day offers schools a fun way to raise money, without kids having to sell stuff.
I thought it would be cool to have lots of kids all chewing gum and raising money on the same day, which is why I created the holiday. So, Bubble Gum Day is perfect – on the First Friday in February, anyone who donates 50¢ or more gets to chew gum at school. Kids have fun, while also raising money for any charity the school chooses. Teachers can also incorporate bubble gum into their lessons for the day. If your school participates, be sure to let us know!
I was surprised to learn that last year’s celebration wasn’t limited to kids and schools – many businesses also held bubble gum events for their customers and employees. That’s great – why should kids have all the fun?
